Evaluation of mouth lesions among Baghdad outpatients visiting the departments of oral pathology and oral medicine

Introduction: This article seeks to familiarise clinicians with the assessment and treatment of common oral lesions encountered in primary care settings. According their clinical presentation, are classified as ulcerated lesions, white or variegated white-red masses nodules, pigmented lesions. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis, herpes simplex virus, squamous cell carcinoma, geographic tongue, candidiasis, lichen planus, pre-malignant disorders, pyogenic granuloma, mucocele, papilloma, melanoma, hairy amalgam tattoo among pathologies discussed. study aims ascertain prevalence patients determine most prevalent manifestations. Methods: One hundred outpatients were referred Departments Oral Pathology Medicine between January 1 June 30, 2023. The majority referrals for caries, periodontitis, neuralgia, prosthetic issues, other complaints such extraction requests, root planning scaling, general dental examinations. Results: findings provide insights into types observed patients. Among patients, 46% presented ulcers, 32% them having no underlying systemic diseases. Leukoplakia was found 18% planus 9%, mucocele 2%, candidiasis 15%, carcinoma 4%, traumatic ulcers 6%. Conclusion: cavity is often neglected during routine examinations practice. Enhancing knowledge regarding presentations can empower practitioners conduct thorough effectively manage any identified pathologies.
